What is Pediatric Pulmonology?

Pediatric pulmonology focuses on the evaluation and treatment of children with breathing and lung issues. Depending on their needs, your child will receive a customized treatment plan to help manage a range of conditions from asthma to more complex respiratory disorders.

As one of the largest programs in central Illinois, we’re here to support you and your child through education and hands-on help for managing long-term ventilation at home.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

During your child’s appointment, our team will complete a thorough respiratory assessment, discuss symptoms and triggers and develop a tailored care plan.

During your child’s respiratory assessment, our team may:

  • Assess oxygen levels with tests for lung function and blood oxygen
  • Check airflow with a breathing test before and after medication
  • Measure lung size and capacity
  • Observe breathing patterns and movement
  • Test respiratory muscle strength

Your family will be equipped with the tools and information needed to confidently care for your child's needs at home.

Wait times for appointments can fluctuate. However, we can often accommodate a last-minute visit if needed.
