The OSF Central Illinois Pain Center is a hospital outpatient service of OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center.

The Pain Center is staffed by a team of professionals who specialize in providing a research-based, multidisciplinary approach to the management of chronic pain. Classes, counseling, medications, procedural therapies and other services are used to help you see the whole picture of your condition and decide the best way to relieve pain and improve quality of life.

Services offered at the OSF Central Illinois Pain Center

Behavioral therapy – Increase healthy behaviors and retrain unhealthy ones. Receive positive reinforcement of your daily actions and choices. Pain and life challenges can cause emotional distress. Identify strategies to help you cope.

Headache management – We address different medication plans for chronic migraines and neck stiffness. Treatments may include a variety of non-opioid oral medications or injections. Improve daily living and reduce the severity and frequency of migraine events.

Interventional pain therapies – Our anesthesia physicians specialize in treating muscle, joint, nerve and spine pain. They use local a variety of therapies individualized to treat both acute and chronic pain.

Nurse education groups – Pain management strategy courses teach skills to cope with controlling your pain. Pick up a “Pain Strategy Class Schedule” and enroll.

Nurse navigator – Our nurse navigator guides you through the pain management process. They help keep you engaged in your treatment plan, provide education and connect you to appropriate support resources.

Nutrition counseling – As part of pain management strategy classes, a food specialist will assess your current lifestyle and diet. Work with them to develop goals. Create an individual action plan to help you adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Opioid management – Our specialty is to help get you free of opioid medicines. We will help you find the safest, most effective ways to treat non-cancer chronic pain. See the bigger picture of pain control based on current evidence.

Referrals to OSF Rehabilitation therapists

Aquatic therapy – Therapy in the water allows for increased movement and function. This may be ideal for you, if you are unable to take part in land-based physical or occupational therapy.

Occupational therapy – Learn skills that help you improve your ability to perform simple acts of daily life.

Pelvic floor rehab – Specialized physical therapy for chronic lower back pain. This targets the pelvic floor muscle groups.

Physical therapy – Learn exercises that help retrain your body during pain. Find out why these exercises improve your ability to perform daily activities.

Other referrals

Massage therapy – A licensed massage therapist focuses on soft body tissues. This helps provide pain relief and relaxation. Soft tissue includes muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin.

Mind-body therapies – Try our medical exercise program. Supplements, movement therapy and meditation help you control your chronic pain. Please pick up your self-care packet for more information.

Neurosurgery and orthopedics – Neurosurgeons at OSF HealthCare Illinois Neurological Institute treat nervous system disorders. Specialists at OSF Orthopedics treat disorders of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles.

Palliative care – An OSF Supportive Care team works with your primary provider to deliver extra support. Available with helpful treatments to relieve suffering and improve quality of life.

Social services – Designed to help individuals, families, groups and communities enhance their individual well-being. Develop skills and ability to use all available resources to resolve problems.

Tobacco cessation – Specially trained staff at OSF Cancer Support Services will work with you. Smoking decreases healing time of all body processes. Pick up a flyer today – “Are You Ready to Quit Smoking?” and “Not Yet Ready to Give Up Cigarettes?” – to help guide you.
