The OSF St. Francis Emergency Department is a lock-down facility with private patient rooms that are accessible by physicians and staff, along with patients and family members who are escorted by an authorized staff member.
The OSF St. Francis OB/Nursery Department is locked during the evenings. Visitors must enter through the Emergency Department and are escorted to the OB/Nursery.
A HUGS system is in place 24/7. HUGS alarm tags are placed on infants when they are born and secured until discharge.
If a baby is brought too close to a door or alarm, an alarm system will alert staff and automatically place the department on a lock-down to ensure the baby is kept safely within the department.
OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group conducts routine trainings to prepare for various emergency situations that may occur within the facility.
The hospital is also part of a county-wide emergency operations committee that conducts routine trainings to prepare for potential county-wide situations.
