OSF Saint Francis Medical Center

Robotic Surgery Center for Excellence

OSF Saint Francis is the first Robotic General Surgery Epicenter in Illinois; second in the nation, and one of only a few hospitals in the nation to be recognized for excellence in general robotic surgery.

As an Epicenter, OSF Saint Francis acts as a training ground for surgeons across the country to observe and train in robotic surgery.

The team at OSF Saint Francis has helped establish the hospital as a major player in medical and technological expansion.

After the purchase of the da Vinci® surgical robot in 2002, OSF Saint Francis surgeons and nurses have helped lead the way in robotic-assisted surgery nationwide.

Robotic-assisted surgery is the future of surgery, and OSF Saint Francis is proud that the minds behind the machine have been recognized as Epicenter leaders in their craft. Besides the general surgery robotics team, the robotics program has surgeons who specialize in gynecology/gynecologic oncology, and pediatric urology.

This designation comes because of the coordinated efforts and support of our administration, clinical staff and resident education program.

What is Robotic Assisted Surgery?

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is the leader of minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery that offers you the best possible outcome with the least disruption to your everyday life.

The da Vinci® Surgical System is a minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy allowing surgeons to perform complex surgical procedures.

Surgical patients of the da Vinci® System experience less pain, decreased risk of infection, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter hospital stay, shorter recovery time and faster return to normal daily activities.
