Preparing for Your First Visit

Your first cancer treatment can feel stressful, but you can rest assured that we make every effort to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

The cancer center is located on the campus of OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center, and parking is available in the lot in front of the building.

When you arrive, please check in at the front desk. You will need to bring your driver’s license, insurance cards and a list of any medications or supplements you are currently taking.

Your first visit will be educational. You will meet your nurses and doctor, and they will educate you on your treatment and lifestyle adjustments. They will also discuss possible side effects and how you can manage them.

  • Chemotherapy treatments are performed by Illinois CancerCare. Some medical oncology treatments can take several hours. In addition, your team will conduct pre-testing, and your treatment may be administered slowly to monitor for reactions. We supply reading material, snacks, drinks, warm blankets and pillows, but feel free to bring your own.
  • Radiation treatments are performed at OSF St. Mary Cancer Center. Typically, radiation does not take as long as chemotherapy, but all treatments vary depending on type, stage and location.
