What is Women in Philanthropy?

Women are a significant source of philanthropy around the world and the primary decision makers in their families regarding health care.

OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group assists with providing the highest quality health care for our community - now and in the future. Members’ annual financial gifts of $1,000 are used in a manner they decide, to provide needed new services and technology for patients and family members at OSF HealthCare.

The mission of Women in Philanthropy is to optimize the opportunity for women to help direct the future of health care in our community.

Examples of how gifts have been used:

• Provided 200 cancer care totes & education to cancer patients in our communtiy
• Fluid Warmer/Rapid Infusion System: Used in the Emergency Department for trauma tients and those suffering unity from hypothermia. The Emergency Departmeny sees more than 17,000 patients per year, many of whom have bvenefited from this life-saving equipment.
• OB Monitoring SoftwAare: Allows physicians to monitor delivering mothers from their office or home with access to “real-time” data. This equipment benefits more than300 babies each year.
• Dual Breast Pumps: Used by new mothers in the OB/Nursery Department. This equipment benefits more than 300 new mothers each year.
• Philips iU22 Ultrasound unit: Our patients notice the great service and our technologists notice the significant difference in waiting room time for those we serve.
• Pediatric Echo Transducer: Used to diagnose congenital or acquired heart disease in children. Previously, children needing this test had to seek treatment at another facility.
• Holter Software: Used to detect irregular heart rhythms in cardiac patients. The equipment has resulted in a cost savings for the hospital and significantly faster results for patients.
• Portable Ultrasound: Used in the Emergency Department to detect internal bleeding, pelvic pain, gallstones, appendicitis, cellulitis, abscess, low blood pressure and more, as well as guided IV starts. The emergency department treats more than 17,000 patients per year, all whom benefit from this life-saving equipment.

• Microbiology Microbiology: This new technology features improved optics that allow for more immediate visualization of specimens.
• 2018 SFH mammography suite update to enhance patient's safety & comfort.
• John & Melissa Besse Physical Rehabilitation & Wellness Center: The facility provides a large area for physical and occupational therapy, work hardening, pediatric therapy, athletic training services and aquatic therapy.
• Women in Philanthropy members determine how to use remaining and future funds as needs are identified.
