Neuromuscular disorders affect the body’s muscles and nerves. These disorders lead to weakness, numbness, tingling or pain in the limbs. Paralysis and respiratory distress can also occur. Neuromuscular disorders affect 1.5 million Americans each year. The disorders strike both young and old with diseases including: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis and myopathies.
