Brain Tumor (including Intraoperative MRI)

Every child with a brain or spinal cord malformation or illness is different. Our neurosurgeons work closely with other professionals at OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois and use the most advanced technology to create an individual care plan for your child. We care for dozens of children with brain tumors each year, making us a highly-experienced team. We treat all types of complex pediatric brain tumors including those caused by Tuberous Sclerosis and Neurofibromatosis (NF). Our pediatric brain tumor program offers a multidisciplinary team with experts in many different specialties, allowing for collaborative and comprehensive care of the patient with a central nervous system (CNS) tumor. We are the only children's hospital in Illinois with an Intraoperative MRI.
Craniosynostosis and Craniofacial
Clinic times: third Tuesday of each month in Peoria
Working with our Craniofacial Center team, including plastic surgery, our neurosurgeons perform surgeries each year to treat children with craniosynostosis.
Chiari Malformation and other Congenital Disorders
Clinic times: Monday and Friday in Peoria, Wednesday in satellite clinics
The first step for Chiari malformation is getting an accurate diagnosis. We are a national referral center for Chiari malformation because of our expertise and experience. Each year our neurosurgeons perform more than surgeries and also evaluate and treat children who don't need surgery.
Spina Bifida
Clinic times: second Monday of each month, multidisciplinary, comprehensive clinic; individualized clinics on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Spina bifida is a neural tube birth defect ranging in severity. For children requiring surgery for spina bifida or other spinal disorders, our Neurosurgery team uses the most advanced imaging and surgical techniques.
Spasticity and Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy
Clinic times: Monday and Frida
We are the only pediatric provider of selective dorsal rhizotomy and tone management in Central Illinois. Our neurosurgeons and rehabilitation medical specialists work together to reduce spasticity, or high muscle tone, in a child's legs. In addition to performing selective dorsal rhizotomies, our neurosurgeons are experienced in performing baclofen pump placements and revisions.
Hydrocephalus
Clinic times: Monday, first and third Tuesday and Friday in Peoria and Wednesday in satellite clinics
Our neurosurgeons are experts in treating this condition, performing dozens of hydrocephalus surgeries each year. Our pediatric neurosurgeons are experts in shunts and endoscopic third ventriculostomies, and can help guide families through this diagnosis.
